I was born and raised in Taiwan. My family was proud that I was the first one to enter college and graduated with a major in sociology. Fascinated with journalism and films (and not knowing exactly what to do), I ventured out to University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School. I worked in the industry briefly afterward, but decided to return to academia. I went to another graduate program housed in today’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I enjoyed the time at Chapel Hill and was very fortunate to work with several wonderful mentors, including Robert L. Stevenson, Jane D. Brown, and Donald L. Shaw. After earning a Ph.D. degree in 1998, I was extremely lucky to find a job and have continued to work as a college professor. It truly is the best job one can have – constantly meeting new people, learning new knowledge, and discovering new things! For my leisure, I enjoy hiking, gardening, swimming, and traveling to different parts of the world.
