Welcome!

I am a professor of communication at Boston University. I am also affiliated with BU’s Communication Research Center, Center for Innovation in Social Science, Center for the Study of Asia, and Division of Emerging Media Studies.

International communication, political communication, and mediated effects are three areas on which my research and teaching focus. My current research pivot toward three broad themes:

1) The impact of emotion, image, and physiological reaction toward political candidates on voters’ evaluation and decision-making process in the contexts of presidential elections. Works: Wu & Lee 2009; Wu & Coleman 2014; Coleman & Wu 2021; Wu 2024.

2) How people’s perceived nation characteristics are formed due to their media exposure. I am interested in gauging how emotions and post-truth stemmed from cross-national communication drive foreign-policy making and international communication on critical issues. Examples: Wu 2020; Wu 2022; Seaton & Wu 2023.

3) A developing study area: Screen dependency and media habits are concerning for everyone. Relatedly, how social media and digital communication impact people’s relationships, life satisfaction, and objective/subjective wellbeing.

I appreciate your visit and look forward to your engagement!
